Flight Tips

Flight Tips

If you've ever been on a flight longer than 5 or 6 hours you know that it can be an uncomfortable experience so I’ve written a list of must have items to make your time on those flights a little bit more comfortable.

Neck Pillow
Definitely my top pick. They only cost around $20 & they are worth every cent. It makes your time sitting up for all those hours that little bit more enjoyable. I always get a window seat so when I put my pillow around my neck I can lean on the window & get some rest.

Eye Mask
The airlines provide complimentary eye masks, and if you'd prefer a luxury eye mask that blocks more light, you can purchase them online or in stores.

Noise Cancelling Headphones & Adapters
We all know that you get to watch movies & TV shows on the plane but we also know that there might be crying babies, people having loud conversations & possibly people snoring their heads off next to you. Now you’ll need the adapter as the plugs in the seats have 2 points & your headphones only have 1, you can pick one up for only a few dollars. Now that you have these you can plug your headphones in & listen to the movie & not be disturbed by all the noises that comes from being on a full plane.

Earplugs
I know they aren't the most comfortable things in the world, But when you are 1000ft in the air with all that noise from crying babies, snoring, the engine & just general chatter they do make a difference. And the best part is they cost as little as a dollar to buy.

Jumper & Socks
It can get really cool on the plane. They pump the air con so after a few hours you do feel cold. Having a comfy jumper & some warm socks means you can be a lot more comfortable & warm while sitting back watching the latest blockbuster.

Medication
This is really important. If you & someone you’re travelling with is on any type of medication pack them in your hand luggage. If for some reason your bag is lost, (it does happens more than you think) it means you’ve got all your medication with you. You might even need to take it while you’re on the plane. The other thing to remember is getting a signed letter from your doctor with your list of medications. When you’re going through customs they may search your luggage & can ask you for a letter.

Sleeping Tablets
I can sleep on the plane I have no trouble taking a sleeping tablet & getting 8 hours sleep but my husband can’t sleep for more than an hour. Personally I feel bad that I'm resting on his shoulder fast asleep why he watches 3 seasons of Sex & The City but hey I can’t help that I can knock myself out.

Dressing for the Flight
There is a possibility of an upgrade but the chance of that happening is slim to none, so dressing to the nines isn't really worth it. If I'm going to be sitting on a flight for hours you really don't want to be wearing something you would wear to a formal dinner. I like wearing comfy but still nice clothes. Jeans, top, jacket & shoes that are easily removed.  Dress nicely but for maximum comfort.

Entertainment
These days we are very lucky they provide so much when it comes to inflight entertainment, TV Shows, Movies & Games so you don't even have to take your laptop or tablet. But if you’re like me you might like to play Candy Crush or Solitaire for a few hours too, so packing your tablet or laptop is a good source of mindless entertainment. Then you also have the classic books & magazines too. I always have my travel guide books so I can look over the amazing things I'm going to do & fabulous things I'm going to see. Remember if you’re flying with a budget airline you will need to purchase your entertainment package when booking or before the day of your flight

Extra Tips
The last few things are things that I can’t live without on a long flight. Most people wouldn't even think of them but I am always prepared. Deodorant, after 8 plus hours there is a high possibility that you will smell a little so having a travel size deodorant in your bag will make you feel a lot better. Please don’t forget that you’re only allowed to take up to 60ml bottles of liquid on the plane. You can find almost every thing in travel size at most chemists.
